Dermatologists Love Beautycounter For *This* Reason (2024)

When Gregg Renfrew, former business executive and now-CEO of Beautycounter, launched the brand in 2013, her mission was a simple one: to get safer, and toxic-free products into the hands of everyone. But the Natural Resources Defense Council reports there are more than 80,000 chemicals used in cosmetics, household cleaners, in food, and everywhere else in between, so it's not as always simple as it sounds. With a dedication to clean beauty, formulating its products with the safest ingredients, and advocating for cleaner beauty standards, it's no surprise that dedicated consumers and dermatologists praise the best Beautycounter products.

Since Beautycounter's first product launched in 2013, the brand has continued to create high standards in pursuit of clean beauty. The brand's Never List contains more than 1,500 ingredients that it refuses to use in their products, according to a release — 1,400 of which are "banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union," and 100 of which were "screened by Beautycounter and found to be of concern," according to the brand's site. But this doesn’t mean that the products perform any less than ones that contain those Never List-ed ingredients, which include oxybenzone, hydroquinone, and a host of parabens.

Instead, the brand leans on science along with high-performing clean and ethically sourced ingredients to deliver those same results, and derms happen to approve them, too. You’ll find products that cater to acne, anti-aging, and hydration to name a few. Dr. Keira Barr, MD, a dual board-certified dermatologist, global speaker, and best-selling author, says the best anti-aging ingredients to look for are alternatives to topical retinoids like bakuchiol, which happens to be found in the Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream. She notes to also look for “ingredients to think about are those rich in antioxidants to combat free radicals and oxidative stress from environmental exposures like vitamins C, E, pomegranate seed oil, and rosehip oil.”

And if you’re struggling with acne, “I recommend products that contain salicylic acids and benzoyl peroxides. Both of these ingredients are natural exfoliators and help dissolve sebum, the pore-clogging component of our skin,” says Dr. Anetta Reszko, MD, Ph.D, a New York City-based dermatologist. Don’t worry, Beautycounter also has products to help with that too.

Ahead, see the best Beautycounter products for your skincare routine that are entirely safe and effective.
